“In 2013, SSG Michael Ollis, a New Dorp native, was stationed with the 10th Mountain Division at a forward operating base in Ghazni, Afghanistan when the base was ambushed by insurgents. SSG Ollis heroically gave his life to shield a fellow serviceman from a suicide bomber. He posthumously received numerous honors in recognition of his valor including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, the Audie Murphy Medallion, the Polish Gold Star Medal of Honor, and in January 2016, the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) announced that one its new Staten Island Ferry Boats would be named after Michael.”⁣

“(In 2019, our cruise line) cancelled our embarkation day wedding 14 hours before we were supposed to board. We had to call 90 of our guests and inform them. Never in my life did I think this would happen to us. We already had 30 guests staying at the Hilton Garden Inn that Friday night. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We spoke with the event coordinator to figure out a game plan. The Hilton Garden Inn went above and beyond for us. During this time Alessandra Moss worked with us to plan a last minute wedding that took place on Sunday, May 19th 2019. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We had our reception at Lorenzos in the Wine Room. Brianna is the manager. She and Alessandra worked together to give us the most magical day. Brianna even had a Napoleon cake thrown in for us. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Alessandra worked her butt off to make sure all of our guests had accommodations for both Friday and Saturday night. Sunday before the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Nicotra even came up to us to introduce themselves. They rented a shuttle bus for our 45 guests that were sailing on the cruise with us. ⁣⁣

Words can't explain how grateful my husband and I are for everyone at the Hilton. They made sure we had the most incredible day. Our wedding turned out absolutely beautiful. We will never forget how they went above and beyond.”

Our Culinary Director, Chef Pete, took time from his schedule to speak to students about his own career path, sharing words of wisdom and helpful hints.
